This press release was sent out Thursday August

Clinical leaders at the Faulkner-Sagoff Breast
Imaging and Diagnostic Centre have commenced a
research study involving a select group of 200
women at high risk for developing breast cancer.
The high risk group includes women with dense
breast tissue and either one or more first degree
relatives with breast cancer or a recognized mutation
in the breast genes (e.g., BRCA1 and BRCA2). The
study is examining the outcomes of screening utilizing
breast MRI versus mammography in breast cancer
detection.
Dr. Sadowsky stated, " MRI is proving to
be of value in women with dense breast tissue
where mammography's limitations are well known.
Utilizing a dedicated breast imaging system gives
us hope for women whose cancers can go undetected
by mammography."
Subject participants are being screened using
the Aurora Breast Imaging System, New England's
first dedicated breast magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) system approved by the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) in 1996 and manufactured by
Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc., North Andover,
MA.
